A Parent’s Story
2/2008

I am a 27 year old married mother of 5 and we are homeless. My family decided to relocate to Atlanta after falling victim to a sub prime mortgage scam in Akron , Ohio .  My husband has family here in Decatur that offered us support until we could get back on our feet, but when we refused to participate in their “wild” lifestyle we were thrown onto the streets of Atlanta . We moved from motel to motel and eventually ended up at Set Free, a temporary night shelter, which in turn referred us to Our House.

Our House has been an enormous assistance to the entire family. Not only is Our House an exceptional, loving learning environment for our 4 year old twins and 2 year old daughter, but Our House has also provided so many resources to help us re-establish ourselves. Tiffany and Susan, the Family Advocates are extremely resourceful. With there help my family has been placed in temporary transitional housing, provided with weekly Marta cards, clothing, toys for Christmas, referrals for food and use of the computer lab for employment searches. But most of all, we have received hope. With the kindness and encouraging words from the Our House staff combined with our faith in God, we feel that we can get through these trials and accomplish our goals. I want to thank the entire Our House staff for their support and also treating us with respect.

With love,

The Lee Family
